Conference 2009
As usual the hall at the Metropolitan Sports Centre in Bushey was full to capacity and beautifully decorated.  About 160 Co-ordinators attended plus the Neighbourhood Sergeants and Police Constables, several Councillors, Valerie Kane and Loran Kingston from the CDRP and the Borough Watch Committee and, of course, the Speakers.

Inspector Neil Morehen was Chairman for the evening and two very good presentations were delivered by Yvonne Bartlett Senior Trading Standards Officer who spoke about residents rights, rogue traders and distraction burglars, and DI Stuart Campfield who explained the C2 Project which involved offering offenders who were hooked on drugs and offended to feed their habit, the choice of going to jail or going on a programme of drug rehabilitation.  This is in the trial stages so no proof is yet available as to whether it works.

Angela Saunders, Chairman of Borough Watch, welcomed all comers and talked about the work that Borough Watch had achieved in the past 12 months.

Unexpectedly Chief Inspector Sian Lockley attended and asked if she could make a short presentation,  Angela obviously agreed and asked her , in addition to announce the winners of the raffle.

Another unexpected speaker was Cllr. John Donne who is Chairman of the CDRP and he thanked Borough Watch for all that they do and invited everyone present to attend the CRG’s and CDRP meetings. Dates and venues for which are found on our website.

The Awards were handed out by Angela Saunders with Derrick Sweeney reading out the reason why these particular coordinators had been chosen.

COLIN BEMBRIDGE - Borehamwood
CARIN CANT - Radlett
ANDREA AND PETER SHERRIFF - Elstree
CHARLES ORROS - Elstree
ALASTAIR MACLEAN - Potters Bar
CLLR. SHIRLEY LEGATE - Potters Bar
ANNE WILLIAMSON - Bushey
CHRISTOPHER RUGMAN - Bushey

This year the Conference did not go without a hitch.  The microphone stopped working in the middle of DI Campfiueld’s presentation but he soldiered on mikeless until a new battery was fitted and then the camera which was being used to photograph the speakers and Award winners ran out of space.  Hopefully we will have some images to put on the Website once we have sorted things out.

However there were ten gorgeous raffle prizes and the buffet this year was better than ever, the Borough Watch Committee choosing the menu very carefully so that there was something for everyone.

We can safely say that a good time was had by one and all, and here’s to next year.
